Holistically crafted interiors that marry beauty and functionality — I bridge design and energy work to make everyday spaces work in extraordinary ways.

At s. Yen Design, I don’t just design spaces; I connect your needs with each space’s unique characteristics to elevate collective energy and reveal the hidden potential a space has to offer. A sense of joy and harmony simply flows.

Elevate Your Spaces,

Enrich Your Life

With 20 years of design experience across continents and multidisciplinary design sectors, I specialize in transforming physical environments to reflect the inner peace and balance unique to each individual.

Because every person is different, every space should be, too.

By approaching each project from a Human-Centric framework, I prioritize your physical and emotional needs by shaping spaces around how you actually live and thrive in an environment. This empathetic approach (not trends) improves your well-being by combining smart ergonomics, natural elements, and good lighting to make daily life feel effortless and comfortable, I act as a translator between you and your environment. Feng shui principles and energy fundamentals are integral tools I use alongside Architectural Design Expertise; my aim is to help people find harmony, balance, and inspiration in their homes and within themselves.

I truly believe my work is only as successful as my clients’ aspirations, so together we co-create spaces that resonate with your true essence and foster a sense of well-being that extends beyond the material realm. Let us turn ideas into vibrant realities through a balanced blend of creativity, technical skill, and project management.

What My Clients Say

“Working with Susan was a pleasure. She really helped bring my vision to life and was always willing to go the extra mile to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. Would definitely recommend and would work with her again."

“I had the pleasure of working with Susan as my restaurant interior designer, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the entire experience. From the very first design stage all the way to the final touches, Susan was incredibly helpful, thoughtful, and attentive to every detail. Her sense of aesthetics—especially her eye for colour and layout—is outstanding. She managed to perfectly balance style and functionality, creating a space that is not only beautiful but also inviting and practical. One of the biggest challenges was recreating an authentic Taiwanese vibe here in the UK, but Susan exceeded all expectations. She carefully helped me select the right furniture, materials, and decorations to bring that vision to life. The result? A restaurant that customers absolutely love. It’s exactly what I imagined—if not better. I constantly receive compliments on the interior, and I have Susan to thank for that. I highly recommend Susan Yen to anyone looking for a designer who combines creativity, professionalism, and true dedication. She turned my dream into reality!"

How does the virtual design process work if I choose “Essentials” ?

Step 1 ~ When you enquire we will engage in a virtual complimentary design meeting. I’ll get to know your needs and wishes, and you get to see if I am the right designer for your project. Always welcome to share with me what styles inspire you via email or Pinterest in advance!

Step 2 ~ We make a great team, lets proceed with sending me a few snaps so I can get a feel for your space + some measurements from you to ensure the furniture I’ve got in mind will fit perfectly. Don’t worry if you don’t have a proper floor-plan available, a hand drawn doodle can work, or I’m happy to come by and measure for an additional cost.

Step 3 ~ I’ve now converted the measurements & drawn up a most suitable furniture layout for you to scale, showing you what sized items you can fit and where. There’s always room for tweaking (2x ) but it is my experience my initial suggestion is usually the most ideal option. Once you are happy I’ll start designing.

Step 4 ~ Designing the ‘concept’ for you — this indicates what I have envisioned for you while showcasing the key elements in the space. It’s at this stage that we fine tune the style to ensure we are going in the right direction. You have 2x revisions but rest assure you will be given recommendations on selections that fit your taste and your space.

Step 5 ~ Your tailored made design plan is ready! Everything you need to create your ideal space, from to scale plan, reference image, and recommended shopping lists + trade discount access. You also have my ongoing support to answer any questions or help to procure items via my trade account during the 5 weeks period.

I have long standing trade relations with suppliers, distributors, and brands across the spectrum from soft furnishings to architectural finishes, and the discounts I get are passed straight on to my interior design clients. In fact, many clients will make back my fees from the discounts I pass on! Keep in mind the trade discounts do vary but most suppliers especially higher end brands are actually, rather generous.

And because we start each project by discussing your target budget, I curate items with the budget + the potential trade pricing in mind. Having an extensive knowledge on vendors mean I am more likely to specify key design pieces and materials that will not only align with your vision, but also with your pocket.

What kind of access to trade discount is available to us? Can you work within my budget for furniture and décor?

What sort of time reserve would be ideal to make “Essentials” work for us?

I would recommend a 5 - hour block time reserve to start with. The 5 hour time could help generate clarity on expert design direction, knowledge on execution, and narrowing down on key selections which ultimately means, you are on the right track to not only be inspired, but to feel a long overdue sense of joy and serenity. And assuming if you are considering the essential service to help spruce up a rental property / property for sale, the time spent could easily help you generate a 20 ~ 25% increase on your spaces’ value (speaking from experience). Now, I think that’s what I call a real wise decision making.

What does holistic (human centric) design really mean? What makes you different?

I believe everyone is unique, and I enjoy working closely and directly with my clients so I can tailor designs to align with their individual quirks (habits / life style) and needs.

And I don’t work only with forms that are tangible and visible; as a Theta Healing Therapist (think energy healing combined with talk therapy), I also tune into the energy of the spaces I work with. I incorporate fundamental feng shui principles into my designs — not as a separate step, but as an intuitive, natural part of my process. I consider this good practice and the foundation of any strong design.

In short, I design spaces that reflect the real you who wants to be seen and heard, while also considering what each space needs based on its unique location and environment.

Everything looks great but not sure which service level is right for me?

No worries, reach out and lets have a chat (initial exploration call is always complimentary!)

After an initial conversation, I’m sure we can better define your project scope and provide you with a proposal that fits your needs.

And I trust that you will find me to be a collaborative, honest, and a straightforward designer who is a lot of fun to work with. I’m here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving in a practical and effective manner. I’m here to help you make your space truly yours!
